Abstract
The present chapter analyses the development of the municipality of Tequila, Jalisco, under smart specialisation (SS) and logistics approaches, comparing the case of Tequila with London and Brno. We found that despite Tequila exhibiting economic potential based on the tequila industry and tourism, it faces significant limitations as it lacks technological infrastructure, information technology (IT) oriented education, integration of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and multi-sector collaboration. The European cases offer examples of how cities can implement collaborative, sustainable, and innovative strategies to address urban and logistical challenges. In Tequila, disorganised initiatives and predominance of tourist interests raise concerns regarding its endeavour towards a smart city model. The present document ponders on Tequila's progress, barriers, and opportunities to integrate technologies, foster sustainability, and generate an inclusive governance, while identifying the necessary actions to consolidate the city as a truly smart and sustainable destination.
