Abstract

This chapter investigates the preservation of Indigenous languages in Zimbabwe through interactive digital experiences, particularly language-focused games. The colonial legacy has entrenched English as the dominant language, marginalizing Indigenous tongues and contributing to cultural erosion. Despite government efforts, progress remains insufficient, highlighting the need for innovative solutions. Using a gamification framework informed by community engagement, this research enhances the learning of selected Indigenous languages. Collaborating with cultural experts, we developed engaging game narratives and features, showing gamification's potential as a transformative tool for linguistic preservation. The findings suggest that interactive experiences can revitalize Indigenous languages, addressing challenges in implementation and cultural nuances.
