Harnessing AI for Sustainable Decision Making in State Owned Institutions in Developing Countries
Abstract
The inescapable impact of Artificial Intelligence is evident in many aspects of life and business operations. This chapter examines use of AI systems in decision-making within state-owned institutions. Through systematic literature review, this research examines the current state of AI adoption in decision-making and demonstrates both known and potential benefits. The findings confirm that by integrating AI technology, organizations can enhance the quality of their decision-making processes. Findings further confirm that the full adoption of AI systems in decision-making is confronted by numerous challenges, such as poor ICT infrastructure and internet connectivity, lack of familiarity with AI technology, generational gaps, affordability, and shortage of AI skills and talent. This study therefore contributes to the analytic interrogation of the benefits of augmented intelligence in decision-making, especially in developing countries. The results offer recommendations for improving the quality of decisions made by government-owned institutions in developing country contexts.
