From Learning to Learning How to Learn: Bridging Theory and Practice
Abstract
The chapter focuses on the key skill of “learning how to learn” especially when operating in the contemporary dynamic environment. This meta competency is crucial as it helps organizations to be relevant and competitive especially in the current society that is characterized by technological and socio cultural dynamics. The characteristics identified are metacognitive awareness, intrinsic motivation, strategic learning, flexibility, and critical thinking. Speaking of barriers, the problem of educational inequity and the use of ineffective methods of teaching is considered, as well as how to adapt to the changes. While successful practices from around the world are exhibited, the importance of technology in education is also emphasized and all stakeholders involved in the education process are encouraged to work towards the goal of providing lifelong learning to the people of the 21st century.
