Exploring Smart Textiles and Wearable Tech: An Introductory Overview
Abstract
Smart fabrics and wearable technology represent of form of textile engineering data science and electronics. Such innovation have led creation of smart fabric that can react communicate and sense, transformed many sectors like healthcare, fashion, defense, sports and many more. This chapter explodes the foundation and diverse application of smart and wearable textile into active, passive and ultra-smart variants of fabrication methods weaving to printing and 3D knitting (Stoppa & Chiolerio, 2014; Cherenack & van Pieterson, 2012). This chapter highlights the issues and challenges linked to wearable technology like durability privacy, comfort, power management and cost, keeping in mind about environmental and ethical consideration (Zhao et al., 2021). It outline future direction, including AI integration personalized design and sustainable material. This comprehensive overview established understanding of both functional and expressive value and how smart and wearable textiles re-shape interaction with clothing (Castano & Flatau, 2014).
