Critical Success Factors and Market Trends in Residential Structures for Elderly Care
Abstract
The non-profit sector is a growing sector, with an ever-increasing business volume, trying to answer one of the most significant changes, the ageing of the population. The main objective of this investigation is to identify the relevance of critical success factors and market trends have on the management decisions of residential structures for the elderly. This knowledge will allow more proactive and strategic decisions, fostering competitiveness and a more adequate response to this population, which, in turn, will impact all sectors of society. A descriptive study was conducted, through a survey directed to directors of residential structures for elderly in north Portugal. The main results point out to a) CSFs are extremely relevant on the management decisions and planning improvement and communication are the factors that have the higher contribution to those decisions, and b) market trends are very relevant to management decisions and clients and human resources have the greatest influence on those decisions.
