University Partnerships: Dual-Enrollment Programs and Their Impact on Education Careers
Abstract
Dual-enrollment programs, in which high school students simultaneously receive college credit, have emerged as a significant tool for bridging the gap between secondary and postsecondary education. These programs are increasingly being utilized through university partnerships with public colleges to expand educational possibilities for students, particularly those pursuing professions in education. This chapter addresses the role of dual-enrollment programs in developing pathways to jobs in teaching, counseling, and other educational professions. Best practices for creating successful university-college relationships are highlighted, along with ideas for broadening the scope of dual-enrollment programs to better promote the recruitment of diverse individuals into education professions. Finally, the study looks forward to future advancements in dual-enrollment programs, with an emphasis on maximizing its potential to contribute to the growing need for trained educators and counselors in the public college system.
