Abstract
Technology has evolved and advanced over the years, and as a result, more electronic items are subscribed to and disposed of, turning into e-waste, a big threat to the environment and health. This chapter explores an integrated look into sustainably managing e-waste drawing from the related sources of the product, classification of e-waste, and the more traditional steps in the e-waste management life cycle, which include collection, sorting, and recycling. It articulates the present practices and discusses ideas such as utilizing models of circular economy and the extended producer responsibility. Recycling and the technology of automated sorting processes are included together with the corresponding legislation on the national and international levels. Best practices are seen through case studies of successful e-waste management programs while the issues raised include technological limitations, financial constraints, or limitations in the policy framework. Some of the recommendations include international cooperation and innovation for change.
