The Intersection of Political Economy and Workplace Equity: Implications for Talent Acquisition
Abstract
This chapter shows how political economics and workplace equality might redefine talent acquisition as a structurally anchored and justice-oriented organizational activity. This analysis uses global case studies and transdisciplinary theory to examine how macroeconomic policies, historical legacies, and neoliberal ideologies affect inclusive hiring. The chapter criticizes compliance-oriented Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives and promotes strategic, intersectional, and ethical approaches that support economic justice. This paper analyzes labor markets, governance frameworks, and corporate practices between the Global North and South, advocating for multilevel governance and systemic accountability in talent efforts. The chapter proposes a progressive, transformative vision of inclusive hiring by infusing political economics into HR and DEI frameworks. Talent acquisition becomes a tool for institutional reform, structural correction, and socially sustainable workforce development.
