Abstract

Self-reflection is a vital tool capable of enhancing learning processes. In this chapter, the importance of reflection on teaching and learning is discussed by reviewing a specific teaching session delivered by one of the co-authors. The suitability and quality of the devised learning plan, the delivery method, and the feedback are discussed. The chapter also highlights a case of a formerly incarcerated student with self-stigmatisation. The case study reveals that it is crucial for a teacher to pay close attention to his students' behaviours and to build a quality relationship with them. It emphasises that students needing timely support may sometimes go unnoticed. The authors advocate institutions' launch of awareness and sensitisation campaigns geared towards boosting the self-confidence and self-esteem of formerly incarcerated students who might be unwilling to disclose their previous conviction history. Training and equipping staff and faculties with skills to eliminate stigma, create inclusive environments, and better support all members is also advocated.
