Abstract

Since the post-COVID era, Generative AI (artificial intelligence) has challenged educators and the education system in EAP and education. Many articles have been written to combat or rather engage with generative AI. Although there is a plethora of articles in this area, the literature on character development and academic achievement is relatively sparse. This article reviews teaching an EAP course semester to year one students in their first semester of lessons. The discussion focuses on character education in the classroom. It aims to discuss utilizing marketing methods and awards to infuse character development in the classroom. This paper is based on the author's experience teaching at a Sino-British joint venture university in Jiangsu, China. It brings forth first-hand observations of student interactions and how using character development tools aids students in instigating personal character growth and reflection.
