Generational Shifts in Workplace Ethics and Gender Norms in India
Abstract
This chapter examines the generational shifts in workplace ethics and gender norms in India, analyzing how Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z differ in their ethical outlooks and gender perceptions at work. Based on secondary data from government reports, corporate surveys, and academic research, the study finds that while older generations prioritize hierarchical compliance and loyalty, younger cohorts emphasize transparency, accountability, and workplace inclusivity. The chapter highlights persistent challenges such as the gender pay gap, underrepresentation of women in leadership, workplace harassment, and digital ethics concerns. Future workplace ethics and gender norms in India will be shaped by corporate governance reforms, policy interventions, and changing employee expectations. To build an equitable and ethical workplace, organizations must integrate value-driven ethics, leadership diversity, and gender-sensitive policies.
