Abstract

Guided by the principles of Appreciative Inquiry, an examination of British Columbia's journey toward a more inclusive education system reveals promising policies and practices that may offer valuable considerations for other jurisdictions. Drawing on 25 years of experience in teaching, leadership, and higher education, it examines both systemic and grassroots initiatives that can foster inclusive and positive learning environments. These developments are framed within the context of BC's Inclusive Education Policy, the redesigned curriculum, and the adoption of Competency-Based Individual Education Plans, all contributing to a more accepting and student-centered approach. By focusing on strengths and successes, the chapter illustrates how collaboration, policy alignment, and innovative educational design have driven the growth of inclusive practices in BC schools. It aims to inspire and guide global efforts to build more inclusive education systems.
