Empowering Inclusion and Leveraging Technology in PreK-12 Classrooms: Enhancing Innovative Strategies and Learning
Abstract
This chapter examines the growing shift toward inclusive classrooms, focusing on the critical role of technology for students with disabilities in general education settings. It traces historical transitions from segregated education models to inclusive practices, highlighting the technological advancements supporting preschool through 12th grade student learning experiences. This chapter introduces theoretical frameworks like Universal Design for Learning and the Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition model, which help educators create accessible, equitable, and diverse learning environments. The chapter underscores the importance of professional development to address obstacles like the digital divide and resistance to technology adoption. It concludes with recommendations for integrating emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and virtual reality while encouraging collaboration of families and stakeholders to foster everlasting change.
