Abstract

Kashmir's mountain tourism, which is known for its magnificent scenery and abundant biodiversity, has emerged as an important economic engine. However, the fast expansion of tourism creates significant ecological issues that jeopardize the long-term viability of these sensitive settings. This chapter investigates the environmental implications of mountain tourism in Kashmir, such as deforestation, soil erosion, pollution, and biodiversity loss. It investigates the difficult balance between tourism growth and environmental protection, highlighting the importance of sustainable methods in preserving the region's natural heritage. The chapter also thoroughly reviews existing tourist practices in Kashmir, highlighting major regions where environmental degradation is particularly severe. It suggests a road to sustainable tourism by pushing for environmentally friendly infrastructure, ethical land use, and the promotion of eco-tourism as viable alternatives to traditional tourism models.
