Case Studies of Misuse and Mitigation in AI-Driven STM Research
Abstract
Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Science, Technology, and Medicine (STM) research has led to groundbreaking advancements. However, it has also introduced significant security, ethics, and potential misuse challenges. This chapter explores several case studies in which AI-driven approaches in STM research have been misapplied, resulting in ethical violations, security breaches, or unintended consequences. Additionally, it examines strategies for addressing these issues, focusing on regulatory frameworks, ethical guidelines, and technological safeguards. This chapter analyzes real-world examples and highlights the importance of maintaining secure and ethical practices in AI-enhanced STM research. It offers insights into the evolving landscape of AI within this field.
