DescriptionThe design and performance of building façades are becoming increasingly central to the future of sustainable and high-performance architecture. No longer limited to aesthetic function, façades now serve as dynamic systems that regulate energy, respond to environmental conditions, and enhance occupant comfort. As technologies and materials advance, façade engineering is evolving into a multidisciplinary field that integrates design, engineering, and environmental strategy. This shift highlights the growing importance of innovative approaches to creating responsive, efficient, and adaptive building envelopes. Principles, Materials, and Applications in Facade Engineering provides a comprehensive reference on the core principles, modern materials, emerging technologies, and design strategies in façade engineering. This book serves as both a foundational guide and a forward-looking compendium addressing current and future challenges in façade system design. Covering topics such as structural and aesthetic potential, high-performance cladding, and technical textiles, this book is a fundamental academic resource for graduate and doctoral students, engineers, architects, façade consultants, urban planners, sustainability experts, construction managers and more.
Author's/Editor's Biography
Arkar Htet (Ed.)
Arkar Htet holds a Ph.D. in Management from Lincoln University College, Malaysia, with a dissertation focused on the relationship between leadership styles and project success in Myanmar’s construction industry. He also holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the same university, where his research addressed “Optimizing Glass Façade Design for Aesthetics and Energy Efficiency in Myanmar’s Building Industry.” His academic foundation also includes a Bachelor of Computer Technology from the University of Computer Studies, Yangon, and an MBA from SMC University, Switzerland. Dr. Htet is currently the Managing Director of Htet Myat Arkar Co., Ltd., Academic Dean of Mullion Façade Engineering School, and Program Director of R&T Academy. He is also a Postdoctoral Fellow at Eudoxia Research University, Newcastle, where his research focuses on adaptive façade systems for climate resilience in urban buildings. With over a decade of experience in façade engineering, project management, and sustainable building systems, Dr. Htet has made notable contributions to both academic and industry practice across Southeast Asia. He holds multiple professional qualifications, including a Diploma in Construction Project Management, Executive Diploma in Data Analytics, and certification in Façade Engineering from ASTI Dubai. Dr. Htet has authored and co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters published in international journals and edited volumes. His key research areas include green façade innovation, building information modeling (BIM) integration, AI-driven risk prediction, and lifecycle performance of façade materials. He is committed to bridging engineering principles with digital innovation to drive resilient and energy-efficient building envelopes in the era of climate change.
