Abstract

The Right to Information (RTI) Act, enacted in India in 2005, was a ground-breaking legislation aimed at fostering transparency, accountability, and citizen empowerment. Simultaneously, India embarked on an ambitious e-governance journey to leverage technology for efficient governance and service delivery. This chapter explores the confluence of RTI and e-governance initiatives and their collective impact on transparency and efficiency in the Indian governance landscape. The integration of RTI with e-governance initiatives in India. The chapter seeks to answer three primary questions: the extent to which this integration enhances transparency, its impact on the efficiency of government operations, and the challenges it presents. The findings in this chapter contribute to the discourse on good governance and citizen-state relations, shedding light on the pivotal role that technology and transparency play in shaping the future of India's public administration and governance.
