Abstract

Workplace incivility is increasingly recognized as a critical issue affecting employee well-being and organizational effectiveness. Defined as subtle, disrespectful behavior that erodes mutual respect, incivility persists despite being less overt than bullying or harassment. This chapter probes into the novel aspects of incivility, exploring its causes—including individual traits, organizational factors, and situational triggers—and its profound impact on employee mental health, well-being, and organizational culture. The significance of addressing incivility lies in its detrimental effects on employee morale, productivity, and retention, making it imperative for organizations to implement preventive measures and effective interventions. Strategies such as promoting emotional intelligence, conflict resolution skills, and inclusive workplace practices are essential for fostering a culture of respect and mitigating incivility. By prioritizing mental health and well-being, organizations can cultivate positive work environments.
