Introducing a Collaborative Training Program for Special Educators and School Social Workers
Abstract
This chapter introduces Project Match Made in Schools (Project MMS). Project MMS is funded by a H325K grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. The project provides interdisciplinary training for special educators and social workers. Scholars in the special education program pursue initial teacher licensure in special education. Special education and social work scholars share six hours of coursework, are paired together for field experiences, and participate in interdisciplinary research apprenticeships. This chapter describes the components of Project MMS and highlights some challenges and successes the project personnel have experienced.
