Gamification as a Pedagogical Tool in Geriatric Nursing: Engaging and Empowering Future Nurses
Abstract
Incorporating gamification into geriatric nursing curricula presents a transformative opportunity to improve student engagement, enhance learning outcomes, and foster critical thinking in the care of older adults. This chapter explores how gamified approaches can address common educational challenges in geriatric nursing, such as learner motivation, knowledge retention, and application of complex concepts like pharmacokinetics, chronic disease management, and falls prevention. The chapter discusses best practices in the design and integration of gamified content, examines the cognitive and emotional impacts on learners, and provides practical strategies for implementation. Drawing from case studies, empirical research, and theoretical frameworks, this chapter outlines how gamification can align with educational standards and learning objectives to empower nursing students to deliver high-quality, compassionate care for the older population.
