Abstract
This study explored the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in revolutionizing virtual campuses and e-learning at two major Pakistani universities: Virtual University and Allama Iqbal Open University. With the rapid shift towards digital education, this research aims to understand the effectiveness, challenges, and opportunities of ICT integration in higher education. A qualitative approach was used, involving 41 participants from diverse academic backgrounds, including students, faculty, and administrators. Data was collected through face-to-face and WhatsApp online interviews, with thematic analysis applied to identify key themes such as the effectiveness of ICT in enhancing learning, technological infrastructure challenges, and the need for digital literacy training, student engagement, and socio cultural barriers. The findings revealed that while ICT has the potential to significantly improve access and flexibility in education, challenges such as unreliable internet connectivity, lack of digital skills, and cultural resistance remain prevalent.
