Evaluating Road Infrastructure in Economic Development: The Case of the Road Network in Tourism in the Dominican Republic
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the impact of road infrastructure on the economic development of tourism in the Dominican Republic, taking as a case study the main road corridor of the country: Punta Cana, Puerto Plata and Pedernales. Using a mixed approach that combines qualitative and quantitative techniques, we seek to understand how the quality, connectivity and accessibility of these roads influence the influx of tourists and the economic growth of the regions. The research is structured in two main phases: interviews with experts in transportation and tourism and an analysis of secondary data from official sources. The findings offer a comprehensive view of the opportunities and challenges faced by road infrastructure in the tourism sector, highlighting the importance of strategic planning to maximize its potential in regional development.
