Diffusion of Integrating Educational Applications Into English Vocabulary Instruction in Universities
Abstract
Despite the growing interest in integrating educational applications (apps) into vocabulary instruction to develop vocabulary teaching and learning in recent years, previous academic studies indicated the need to focus on this area in terms of both university English as a second language (ESL) instructors and students. As such, this chapter reviews the previous studies focusing on the perceptions and practices of ESL instructors and students of integrating educational apps into vocabulary instruction. It highlights the integration of non-digital tools into vocabulary instruction, the characteristics and reformation of educational apps into English language instruction, and the integration of educational apps into vocabulary teaching. Attention is also given to the demographic variables that affect or do not affect ESL instructors' and students' perceptions. Thus, by providing a full and detailed view in this area, this chapter helps identify new ideas that might be beneficial in developing vocabulary instruction, in addition to the pedagogical implications.
