Defining Micro-Credentials: Concepts, Theories, and Pedagogies
Abstract
Micro-credentials have emerged as a versatile tool in education, offering learners the opportunity to acquire specific skills and competencies in a flexible manner. This paper delves into the theoretical underpinnings of micro-credentials, exploring their conceptual framework and theoretical foundations. It examines various pedagogical strategies for the effective implementation of micro-credentials, considering aspects such as assessment, feedback, and instructional design. Furthermore, the role of micro-credentials in promoting lifelong learning is explored, highlighting their potential to support continuous skill development and career advancement in an ever-evolving job market. By synthesizing concepts, theories, and pedagogies, this paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of micro-credentials and their implications for educational practice.
