Abstract

Healthcare systems are so connected to the political and economic situation of a country that detailed, practical insights are hard to obtain that apply equally well across countries. The U.S. system has evolved over the past one hundred and fifty years from one that revolved around a solo private physician in a rural setting whose patients paid him directly for whatever services he rendered to a massive industry of insurance companies, multi-hospital networks, and mobile patients.
