Abstract

Social media has transformed digital communication by allowing real-time, user-created content with little oversight, in contrast to the regulated flow of traditional media. Although it provides extensive access to information and worldwide connectivity, it brings forth ethical issues related to misinformation, privacy, algorithmic bias, and accountability of platforms. This chapter examines important ethical frameworks and highlights the responsibilities of platforms, governments, and users in creating accountable digital environments. It emphasizes the difference between traditional media and social media, the twofold aspect of accessibility, and the necessity for ethical management via cooperation, regulation, digital literacy, and compassionate algorithm development.
