The Role of AI in Revolutionising Risk Management for Moving and Handling Tasks
Abstract
This chapter explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming risk management in moving and handling tasks, particularly within nursing and geriatric care. By integrating AI-powered technologies—such as wearable sensors, predictive analytics, and real-time decision support systems—organisations can identify biomechanical hazards, predict musculoskeletal injuries, and personalise care strategies. The chapter offers clinical insights from nursing practice, including safe patient handling in long-term care facilities, and illustrates how AI enhances ergonomic assessment, staff training, and risk mitigation. Drawing on current research and international practice guidelines, it positions AI as a crucial innovation in safeguarding both patients and healthcare workers. Practical applications, ethical considerations, and case studies from eldercare nursing are critically examined to showcase how AI aligns with occupational health and safety (OHS) standards.
