Abstract
This paper reviews the American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Six Sigma Black Belt Body of Knowledge (CSSBBBOK) and prescribed areas of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) along with industry accepted deliverables for the Six Sigma methodology of Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC). Each DMAIC phase is compared to project management process knowledge areas of the PMBOK and the CSSBBOK. This paper proposes adding project management deliverables to the typical DMAIC tool set to resolve some of the root causes of Six Sigma project failure and to ensure successful Six Sigma project execution.
