Abstract

Information within an enterprise is often scattered across various administrative domains and geographical time zones. Moreover, such information is maintained in different databases in heterogeneous formats serving varied needs of different set of people across an organization. For strategic decision-making, need is often felt to integrate these information, spread across the company, on a real time basis. Traditional ETL technologies address this problem but impose latency in the process of building data marts and data warehouse. In this paper, we introduce GRADIENT - an EII solution based on service-oriented architecture for accessing distributed information across an enterprise for solving data integration challenges associated with data heterogeneity and geographical spread. GRADIENT has service-oriented data provisioning layer and a metadata management layer that tackles data semantics and metadata synchronization issues. Additionally, the framework uses a Grid based approach to distribute computational load of parallel queries.
