Abstract

This chapter explores how Black women in higher education leadership navigate imposter syndrome and systemic barriers through resilience and support networks. Through personal narratives and scholarly analysis, it examines how women of color confront challenges like pay disparities and microaggressions while maintaining leadership roles. The discussion connects social comparison theory with imposter syndrome, revealing it as both an individual and systemic phenomenon. The analysis highlights how empowerment strategies—including mentorship, cultural wealth building, and authentic leadership—enable Black women leaders to transform personal challenges into institutional change. Drawing on intersectional frameworks, the chapter demonstrates how resilience-building strategies and support networks can be institutionalized to benefit future leaders. It concludes with practical recommendations for creating more equitable academic environments, showing how individual success stories can drive systematic change.
