Why Is Corporate Social Responsibility Necessary?: Public Awareness Survey in Georgia
Abstract
In recent decades, fundamental changes have taken place in society and business. One of them is responsible corporate behavior. The purpose of the presented research is to determine the awareness of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the consumer market of Georgia and to study the attitude of consumers towards CSR of companies. The results demonstrate that there are positive attitudes about CSR in Georgia, however, companies should improve their communication strategy, because public awareness of CSR in general and CSR actions of Georgian companies is low. Research has shown that CSR initiatives can make a positive difference and there is an expectation towards companies to contribute to solving existing challenges. The presented research is valuable for practicing managers to plan strategic measures considering CSR. From the theoretical point of view, the study contributes to the discussion about CSR in developing countries by providing a case from Georgia.
