Abstract

In this chapter, the features of virtual robotic simulations designed in accordance with physical robotic kits are examined from different perspectives. Nowadays, with the spread of online education, virtual robotic simulations are preferred as alternative and supportive tools to physical robotic kits. Simulations include challenges, activities, games and competitions organized in parallel with the curriculum of grades K-12. Challenges related to daily life and designed from simple to complex aim to improve students' STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) knowledge and skills. In this section, online platforms including Lego Mindstorms, VEX, Arduino and Mbot virtual robotic tools used in classroom activities or international competitions around the world are examined. Simulations on the platforms are evaluated according to their physical properties, difficulties involved and usability in educational environments. In addition, studies in the literature on simulations are included and examples of the usability of simulations in educational environments are presented.
