Abstract
One of the pillars of innovation in any work culture is promoting diversity, which can benefit organizations in various ways including organization performance improvement, productivity, job satisfaction, creativity, and innovation. Organizations should consider integrating diversity and inclusion initiatives into their internal training and development programs to ensure that all employees are appropriately supported first, and then promote the innovative ideas through this channel. This chapter explores the critical connection between creativity, innovation, and diversity, emphasizing their collective impact on business and societal progress. It begins by defining creativity in a business context as the practice of experimenting and approaching tasks differently to achieve better results, acknowledging its subjective nature and various interpretations. A case study from the City of Edmonton Transit Operations illustrates the pitfalls of neglecting diversity in urban infrastructure projects.
