Abstract

Deepfakes is a new generation of machine learning algorithms, which has demonstrated the possibility of creating audacious synthetic media and raised serious concerns. Firstly, we discuss the evolution of deep fake technology in terms of algorithmic development, the size of the dataset and the way the technology is trained – which has led to a generation of even more convincing fake videos or fake images. It explores the creation of deepfake tools and the emergence of deepfake platform platforms in making synthetic media more accessible and democratic. Deepfakes use including misinformation, identity theft, and privacy infringements and efforts to contain regulation violations given the fluidity of this digital world are also discussed. This study focus on the technology of deepfakes can be applied including both entertainment and advertising and also education and medicine. This chapter offers a general insight into deepfakes, future developments, and trends in deepfake usage, as well as precautionary measures for the future.
