Abstract

The rapid growth of rural tourism presents both economic benefits and environmental challenges, particularly in managing packaging waste generated by increased tourist activities. Sustainable waste packaging management in these areas necessitates the adoption of integrated approaches that balance environmental preservation with economic development. Current practices often fall short due to inadequate infrastructure, limited waste collection and recycling facilities, and a lack of awareness among tourists and local communities. This chapter delves into innovative solutions such as the use of biodegradable and reusable packaging materials, the implementation of comprehensive waste segregation and recycling programs, and the engagement of local communities through educational campaigns and participatory initiatives. Policy support and collaboration between government bodies, tourism operators, and local stakeholders are crucial in fostering a sustainable waste management framework.
