Abstract
This chapter examines waste management in rural tourist locations to promote environmental protection and tourism growth. It defines and describes trash in these environments, including its varieties, origins, and obstacles such as geographic isolation, economic limits, and seasonal fluctuations. The chapter proposes composting, recycling, waste-to-energy technology, and biological treatments as potential solutions. The chapter also discusses smart waste bins and smartphone apps that improve waste management. It also discusses policy and regulatory frameworks, successful instances, and future trends in sustainable activities. We discuss strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and developing technology in trash disposal. These measures can improve waste management, sustainable tourism, and environmental quality in rural tourist regions.
