Sustainable Cultural Ecosystem Framework: A Design-Based Research
Abstract
This chapter explores the design of a sustainable cultural ecosystem framework to rationalize the need for sustainability culture in Polytechnic Malaysia. A design-based research (DBR) approach was chosen where all processes repeat continuously until unanimous agreement among experts is reached. The four main objectives to address the four questions are achieved through four phases. The DBR approach is implemented in the third and fourth phases to find an accurate and appropriate answer from expert consensus as described in the DBR concept. The findings found that management and leadership are important elements in ensuring the existence of a sustainable cultural ecosystem is implemented effectively at Polytechnic Malaysia. This research suggests a holistic framework design intervention as a guide to Malaysian polytechnics and educational institutions in cultivating sustainability as a lifestyle.
