Surveillance Systems Fundamentals
Abstract
Surveillance refers to the systematic monitoring of behavior, activities, or information with the intention of gathering, influencing, managing, or directing. It can involve observing from a distance using electronic devices like closed-circuit television (CCTV), or intercepting electronically transmitted information such as Internet traffic. Additionally, it may encompass uncomplicated technical approaches, such as gathering human intelligence and intercepting postal communications. Citizens employ surveillance as a means of safeguarding their neighborhoods. Governments extensively employ it for intelligence collection, encompassing activities such as espionage, crime prevention, safeguarding of processes, individuals, groups, or objects, and crime investigation. Corporations utilize it to get information about criminals, competitors, suppliers, or clients. Auditors perform a type of surveillance as well. This chapter focuses on the surveillance systems technologies and their different types and their importance.
