Successful Local Experience in Waste Management of Urban Destination
Abstract
Solid waste management in Rundu is a major challenge to the residents of Kehemu suburb resulting in significant health hazards to the environment. The purpose of this chapter is to explore and describe the factors contributing to poor waste management in Rundu, Kehemu suburb. In addition, the factors contributing to poor environmental hygiene in Kehemu location was lack of dumping sites, lack of dustbins and lack of refuse removal service. The findings of this study call for well-articulated actions to address the identified factors that are associated with poor environmental hygiene in Kehemu location in Rundu.The study recommends that town council, community empowerment, provision of dustbins, cleaning up campaigns and education and awareness as some of measures to curb town littering.
