Abstract

How can we explain the unbelievable hatred of Russia in the West following the launch of its “special operation” in Ukraine? How can we explain this invitation to confrontation and denial of any possibility of understanding? Over and above political ulterior motives and strategic stakes, how can we explain this destructive impulse? And how, on both sides, can we create the understanding that will support a return to peace and peaceful coexistence between different ethos? The first thing to note is the narrative on which the mainstream media rely: “Russia is a totalitarian state and it is Russia that has invaded peaceful Ukraine”. This is the narrative that has been running in a loop on French TV channels and in the daily press since February 2022, with very few variations from one to the other. It is fed daily by the “news of the day”.
