Presenting Qualitative Results for Dissertation Research
Abstract
The chapter serves as a guide for students who have chosen to pursue qualitative study for their dissertation. A review of important philosophies and rationales to maintain when implementing the design. The importance of co-alignment with the method and its worldview are explained. Student ability to conceptualize and match study content with the intricacies of the method are noted. An explanation of how qualitative approaches fundamentally differ from quantitative are addressed. A strong distinction from leading philosophers of the method is detailed, along with specific approaches, design aspects, and procedural components. Practical examples from recent student dissertations are referenced. Suggestions are made to encourage student preparedness, awareness, and communication with their supervising faculty. Attention to data presentation, coding, categorizing, the analytic process, iteration, inductive reasoning, technological advancements, and final write-up of results are depicted.
