Abstract

Mountain tourism is a growing sector in the tourism industry bringing economic advantages to local communities through job creation, infrastructure development and revenue generation. However the extensive growth of tourism in mountain environment presents issues such as environmental harm, cultural dilution and socio economic inequalities. This chapter explores the impact of mountain tourism on economies by examining how short term economic gains can affect long term sustainability. The study underscores the significance of embracing tourism practices that respect conservation and cultural heritage to ensure that mountain tourism thrives while safeguarding its unique natural and cultural essence. In this context the chapter critically reviews tourism approaches. Suggests a sustainable development framework to address challenges effectively while maximizing the advantages of mountain tourism.
