Navigating Diversity: In-Service Teachers' Insights on Intercultural Training Programmes
Abstract
This qualitative research study seeks to delve into teachers' perspectives regarding the intercultural education training programs they have attended and whether these programs have assisted them in working with students who bring diverse cultural and linguistic capitals. The sample of the study consisted of eight teachers of both primary and secondary education, whereas the typical case sampling was applied. According to the participants, training programmes addressed a wide range of topics, whereas regarding knowledge, skills and practices the participants were provided with enhanced knowledge on refugee experience, new teaching strategies, and approaches for engaging with students from diverse backgrounds. Concerning the profile of an ideal educator for intercultural programs, most participants indicated that educators should embrace the principles of intercultural education and possess both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. As for the program's impact on students' professional development, opinions varied.
