Innovative Assessment Techniques in Physical Education: Exploring Technology-Enhanced and Student-Centered Models for Holistic Student Development
Abstract
This chapter delves into the field of physical education and emphasizes the crucial role of innovative assessment techniques in promoting students' overall development. Traditional assessment methods often overlook the multifaceted nature of physical education, which encompasses not only physical performance, but also cognitive, affective, and social domains. Acknowledging this drawback, educators have increasingly turned to new assessment strategies to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of students' skills and progress. The chapter commences by scrutinizing the inadequacies of traditional assessment methods in capturing all skills and abilities developed through physical education. It then introduces several innovative assessment techniques, such as performance-based assessments, portfolios, self-assessments, peer assessment, and technology-enhanced assessments. Each technique is discussed in detail, highlighting its benefits, challenges, and practical implementation strategies.
