Abstract

Except for aerosol loading, ocean acidification, and ozone layer depletion, six out of nine planetary boundaries have surpassed sustainability thresholds in recent years. The success of a country's sustainability transitions and circular economy depends on the green practices of businesses and organizations. This chapter documents green practices that contribute to the circular economy of the city among small enterprises in different contexts of Asia and Africa. Using case studies of small businesses from Nepal, South Africa, and Malaysia, this chapter identifies green business models for operations to develop a circular model for small businesses in the Global South. The outcome of the research will be a scalable circular model which can further be applied among small businesses across the world.
