Abstract

Women in academia often struggle with balancing work and family obligations. Motherhood's demands can be relentless and unpredictable, and navigating the complexities of the academic world can be daunting. There are physical and emotional demands of motherhood. In addition, there are deeply rooted societal views regarding gender roles. Unfortunately, bias can manifest in the academic setting against existing or expectant mothers. There are practical tools and strategies to provide much-needed support for women. The responsibility to provide an inclusive and equitable environment lies in the hands of everyone, including the university system. Institutions can employ a variety of strategies to address maternal discrimination. In addition to university policies and procedures, a cultural shift must occur for an impactful change.
