From Automation to Innovation: AI as a Catalyst for Faculty Growth
Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education, moving beyond the automation of routine tasks to fostering genuine innovation in faculty roles and professional development. AI-driven tools ranging from automated grading systems to intelligent tutoring platforms are reshaping the responsibilities of educators, enabling them to focus on mentorship, critical thinking facilitation, and the ethical integration of technology in pedagogy. The discussion highlights the shift from traditional knowledge transmission to knowledge facilitation, emphasizing the importance of AI literacy and continuous professional development for faculty. By automating administrative and repetitive instructional tasks, AI empowers educators to dedicate more time to creative curriculum design, personalized student engagement, and collaborative learning environments. The chapter also addresses the challenges and opportunities presented by generative AI, including the need for ethical guidelines, the development of new assessment strategies, and the cultivation of a growth mindset among faculty.
