Factors Influencing Social Media Privacy
Abstract
Social media privacy is a multifaceted issue encompassing the protection of personal information, the management of digital footprints, and the understanding of how data is used by various entities. This extensive data collection enables platforms to offer personalized experiences and targeted advertisements, but it also raises significant privacy concerns. Users often share personal details without fully realizing the potential implications, including the risk of their information being exploited by third parties for purposes beyond their control. One major concern in social media privacy is the issue of data security. Social media platforms are frequent targets for cyberattacks, and breaches can expose users' personal information to unauthorized parties. Additionally, the practices of data aggregation and selling by some platforms further complicate privacy issues. Data brokers collect and trade information, sometimes leading to misuse or identity theft.
