Exploring the Dynamics of Solid Waste Management in Rural Regions of India
Abstract
The chapter provides an in-depth analysis of the existing SWM policies and regulatory frameworks in India, evaluating their effectiveness and areas for improvement. Case studies from various rural regions are presented to illustrate innovative and community-driven approaches to waste management, showcasing successful models that can be replicated or adapted in similar contexts.A significant focus is placed on the role of technology and innovation in enhancing SWM processes. The chapter discusses how low-cost, locally adapted technologies can be integrated into rural waste management systems to improve efficiency and sustainability. Additionally, it examines the importance of public awareness, education, and community participation in fostering sustainable SWM practices.The chapter concludes with policy recommendations and strategic interventions necessary to strengthen SWM in rural India.
